   Current and Former Student Critique

Dear Jon,

Thank you so much for your willingness to share your knowledge with fellow photographers of all levels – including myself. I learned so much at the Environmental Portraiture Workshop. I'm amazed how – in depth – the workshop was.  I did not expect the real-life experience of having to approach and direct real models.  I also did not expect models to be provided outside of just  the fellow students.  Not only that, but receiving a certificate and a class portrait gave me a true sense of accomplishment.  Everything was very well organized and easy to understand. You truly went above and beyond my expectations of the class. It's good to know there are great photographers out there that are also great people.

Dear Jon,

I really enjoyed class last night. I know I have already said that, but I also hope you realize how valuable your classes are. Not everyone shares their knowledge as you do, and not everyone can inspire as they teach. I walked away last night with some thoughts about where I am with photography and in other areas of creativity, and where I would like to be, that I had sort of realized before but now more fully understand. It's good that you have included this class in your curriculum. It's very valuable. Those who truly want to take an artistic approach to the craft of photography can greatly benefit from the discussion that ensues as you teach - and from the written material you provide.  The material you covered is very important, whether for someone undergoing – reinvention – or for someone who is just getting started. Very well done and enjoyable!  I don't know of many classes I can sit through (for three hours with no break)  without wondering when we would get a rest stop.  I seriously didn't think to look at the time until just before we finished. It was very interesting and just what I needed.  I also (very much) enjoyed visiting with you and the others afterwards .

I enjoy the energy and vision that I receive from the class members.

I like to think of them as associate photographers - despite their experience or skill level. For me teaching is very satisfying, and it leads me into lasting friendships with remarkable people.

Yours Truly,

“You must learn to see for yourself, and the process is as long and arduous as in any other medium. This often fills the impatient (photographer) with dismay.  But....there is no shortcut.”
